Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov said they had showed their open support for the democratically elected representatives in Turkey in the morning of the defeated coup attempt in 2016.

In his meeting with Turkish Parliament Speaker Ismail Kahraman on Tuesday, Ivanov expressed his sadness over the coup attempt by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) on July 15, 2016.

Ivanov praised the Turkish nation's struggle for defending the unity of the country during the defeated coup night.

"In the morning of that day, without waiting, we clearly showed that we supported the democratically elected government representatives of Turkey," said Ivanov.

FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup attempt of July 15, 2016, which left 250 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
