At least 25 people in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo were killed in attacks by rebels over the past four days, authorities said on Wednesday.
Pecos Longwa, a security officer in the North Kivu province, said that the attacks were carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).
“The ADF rebels … have attacked several villages and killed 25 people. Among the villages in which people have been killed are Mangazi, Mabuo, and Butagi,” Longwa said.
He said that the rebels also set on fire several houses and more than 20 motorcycles.
The ADF rebel group – which originated in neighboring Uganda in the 1990s – has been attacking and killing civilians in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo for over two decades.
