2 Naval aviators safely recovered aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower after mishap: US Navy

Two Naval aviators were safely recovered after ejecting from an aircraft during recovery operations aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower off the Virginia coast Monday evening, according to the US Navy.

The mishap occurred at approximately 6.18 pm local time (2218GMT) as the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier was conducting aircraft recovery operations.

The two aviators, assigned to Carrier Air Wing 3, ejected from their aircraft and were promptly recovered by search-and-rescue personnel.

"Both aviators were safely returned to the ship and are being evaluated by medical personnel," the Navy said in a statement.

Four additional shipboard personnel were injured during the incident and were receiving medical treatment. One sailor was being transported to a Norfolk-area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
