SANAA (AA) - At least 37 people were killed and 19 others were wounded when suspected militants launched simultaneous attacks on military targets in southern Yemen on Friday.
The first attack targeted a special operations command in the town of Maifaa, Shabwa province, according to security sources.
The second bomb attack was carried out near a mliitary post.
Fierce clashes erupted between militants and troops after bomb-laden cars were detonated.
10 troops were taken hostage and 2 military vehicle were seized by militans, security sources said.
At least 37 people died including soldiers and a colonel as the death toll is expected to rise.
The Yemeni government is battling al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) militants who often target the military.
The US considers the AQAP as one of the world's most dangerous al-Qaeda branches.
