NEW JERSEY
Ordinary people in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, USA were probably puzzled when they saw a Turkish flag flying on the pole in front of the town’s mayoral offices but it was just a show of sincere congratulations from Mayor Robert B. Giangeruso on the occasion of Turkey’s Republic Day that is to be celebrated on October 29th.
A flag raising ceremony was attended by Matthew Ruzzo and John Montillo from police department, Turkish Consul Tugba Tolga Turgut and Turkish Americans holding balloons and flags.
Mayor Giangeruso said at the ceremony that Turkish Americans are society’s valuable members and he congratulated Turks’ Republic Day.
Following the ceremony, people listened to mini concerts and held a picnic together with no longer puzzled fellow Americans. People were offered Turkish food and celebrated the day together with Turkish Americans.
Turkish flag appeared on the mayoral mast for the 4th Turkish republic day.
