EU commercial flights exceed 2M between June and August

Commercial flights in the EU exceeded two million between June and August 2026, with July recording the highest volume at 709,931 flights, up 2.8% on a yearly basis, official data showed on Monday.

August followed closely with 708,980 flights, representing a 2.3% rise compared with the previous year, Eurostat stated.

In June, air traffic reached 662,480 flights, climbing 2.1% compared with the same month last year.

Commercial flight numbers in August increased in 19 EU countries while eight member states experienced a decline compared with the same month last year.

Slovakia recorded the largest annual increase in August with 37%, followed by Malta at 12.4% and Estonia at 8.3%.

Conversely, Austria saw the sharpest drop of 4.7%, while Greek Cypriot and Germany registered declines of 3% and 2.4%, respectively.
