The Finnish technology giant Nokia announced the N1 on Tuesday, the first Nokia-brand tablet, which will be powered by an Android operating system.
Nokia said the N1 is planned to be available for purchase in China in the first quarter of 2015 for an estimated $249 -- before taxes -- with the anticipation of expanding into other markets.
With this tablet, Nokia will return to consumer electronics only months after selling its Devices and Services Business to Microsoft for over $7 billion.
According to the agreement, Nokia cannot use the Nokia brand on smartphones for a certain period, but it is understood that the same does not apply for tablets.
N1 is designed by Nokia and the company said it will be brought to the market through a brand-licensing agreement with an original equipment manufacturer partner responsible for manufacturing, distribution and sales.
"We are pleased to bring the Nokia brand back into consumers' hands with the N1 Android tablet, and to help make sophisticated technologies simple," Sebastian Nystrom, head of products at Nokia Technologies, said.
The 7.9" display sits in a 6.9mm thin and light design case, Nokia said, adding that the N1 will hold a Z Launcher, which allows users to scribble a letter or two to find their content quickly.
The tablet will be powered by the Android Lollipop operating system and will hold a 2.4Ghz Intel Atom quad-core processor.
