ANKARA
Turkey's airport operator TAV announced on Friday the launch of an app that supports the fight against climate change.
"Passengers can calculate the carbon emission value of their flights and offset it by supporting a project which both reduces carbon emissions and contributes to sustainable development," the company said in a statement on Friday.
The application is available on the websites of 14 airports operated by TAV, the statement said.
"Public authorities, the private sector and civil society should make a common effort to stop climate change and leave a habitable planet to future generations," TAV Airports Vice President Kemal Unlu said in the statement. "Globally, two percent of carbon emissions are associated with the aviation industry, mainly airports. TAV is aware of its responsibility and in cooperation with our shareholders; we are striving to decrease our environmental impact to a minimum while increasing the passenger satisfaction."
"We are endeavoring to increase the awareness of our stakeholders and mainly our passengers with the carbon emissions calculation and offset application, which we developed in collaboration with myclimate Turkey by harnessing its expertise," he said.
