LONDON
British Prime Minister David Cameron has hinted at the possibility of several British casualties in the deadly Paris attacks that left over 125 people dead.
"We must be prepared for number of British casualties in Paris attack," Cameron said at a press conference in London following U.K. government's emergency commitee meeting on Saturday.
He said that security measures were in place in the U.K. that did not need to be raised further.
"Threat level is already in severe, that means an attack is highly likely, and remains severe," Cameron said.
British premier said that last night’s attacks in Paris suggested a new degree of coordination and greater ambition for mass casualty attacks.
"We must recognized, however strong we are, however much we are prepared, we in the U.K. face the same threat," he said.
"Terrorists' aim is clear. It is to divide us and to destroy our way of life, so more than ever we must come together and stay united," he added.
In the past, British citizens have been caught in the middle of terrorist attacks abroad. Last June, a gunman opened fire on a crowed beach in Tunisia’s Sousse, killing 38 foreign tourists, including 30 British before being shot dead by police.
At least 128 people were killed in multiple gun-and-bomb attacks at several locations across the French capital Paris Friday night.
French President Francois Hollande has blamed Daesh for the attacks.
