The Netherlands has signed a deal to buy a new Patriot air defense system worth $1.1 billion, according to media reports on Tuesday.
Dutch Minister for Arms Procurement and Personnel Derk Boswijk signed the purchase contract with the American manufacturer Raytheon on Tuesday afternoon as part of a deal worth $1.1 billion, broadcaster RTL reported.
Last year, the Netherlands purchased another Patriot system, bringing the total to five with the new deal.
In 2023, the Netherlands sent one of its Patriot systems to Ukraine so that Kyiv could defend itself against Russian missile and drone attacks, while two other Dutch Patriots are currently stationed in Poland as part of NATO.
The new Patriot is expected to be delivered in a few years.
