Polish president says planned US base could be named ‘Fort Trump’

Polish President Karol Nawrocki said Tuesday that plans for a permanent US military base in Poland were advancing and that the facility could be named “Fort Trump.”

“Infrastructure preparation is progressing. In fact, the appropriate infrastructure is already being selected,” Nawrocki told Bloomberg Television.

He said a decision on the base was “only a matter of time” and expressed hope that construction would be completed before US President Donald Trump’s term ends in 2029.

“I hope that when work on the base is completed, President Trump will be able to personally attend the inauguration of ‘Fort Trump,’” Nawrocki said.

Nawrocki said financial issues still needed to be resolved, adding that Poland would cover the costs of its own security as well as the presence of US troops.

The idea of establishing a permanent US military base in Poland was first proposed by former President Andrzej Duda in 2018.

Trump said last week that “great progress” was being made toward establishing a US Army base in Poland and that its location could be announced soon.
