Romanian Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu is preparing to consult parliamentary parties on a governing program as he seeks to build support for a new government, broadcaster Antena 3 CNN reported Wednesday.
Niculescu said the talks would focus not only on forming a parliamentary majority and selecting ministers but also on addressing Romania's political and economic challenges.
"My role is to unite the parties' priorities in a realistic program," he said on US social media platform Facebook.
He identified economic growth, protecting purchasing power, supporting businesses and addressing energy prices as key priorities.
Niculescu is expected to hold his first meeting with representatives of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) on Thursday, according to Antena 3 CNN.
The PSD is expected to present its conditions for joining a possible government, while Niculescu will outline his governing program and plans for the future Cabinet.
PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu said Tuesday that the party's participation would depend on a change in the direction of governance and the inclusion of 10 measures adopted by the party in the governing program.
President Nicusor Dan designated Niculescu as prime minister on Monday.
According to Antena 3 CNN, Niculescu is considering a hybrid government comprising politicians and technocrats.
