Serbia has sent a diplomatic protest note to Croatia over alleged interference in its domestic political affairs and election campaign, local media reported Wednesday.
The Serbian Foreign Ministry delivered the note to Croatia on Tuesday, according to reports in Serbian media citing diplomatic sources.
The note described alleged attempts to influence Serbia’s electoral process from abroad, as well as certain Croatian media reports on the country’s political situation, as “unacceptable.”
It also expressed concern over what Belgrade described as one-sided coverage of political developments in Serbia by Croatian media, including attempts to link the country’s domestic political situation to regional stability.
Such an approach does not contribute to mutual trust or good-neighborly relations, the note reportedly said.
Aleksandar Vucic, who resigned as Serbia’s president and is running for prime minister in the upcoming snap parliamentary elections, accused Croatia of interfering in Serbia’s electoral process.
Speaking during a television appearance, Vucic claimed that Croatia was interfering in the election campaign “in the most blatant manner.”
He stressed the importance of formally recording Serbia’s position against foreign interference.
Serbia is scheduled to hold snap parliamentary elections on Oct. 25.
