Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday that Germany had provided Ukraine with a new support package worth more than €1.3 billion ($1.46 billion) during talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
In a statement on US social media company X, Zelenskyy said the package includes weapons and support for Ukraine’s energy sector ahead of winter.
“It includes weapons that will help us now, as well as support for our energy sector ahead of winter – an important energy package. Of course, we discussed the need for air defense, which is critical at this time,” he said.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine and Germany had signed 15 agreements and documents, most covering security cooperation, defense production, procurement, orders for German industry and joint projects in Ukraine.
“The total value of our agreements today is more than €8.5 billion,” he said, adding that a separate agreement would expand cooperation on joint efforts to counter drones.
Merz arrived in the Ukrainian capital Sunday morning for an unannounced visit, saying he had traveled to Kyiv with the message: “You can rely on us.”
