AYDIN, Turkey
Nineteen-year-old Asli Alkis returned home Friday after becoming the first Turkish woman to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain.
Alkis, a member of Kusadasi Mountaineering and Nature Sports Association, took six days to accomplish the mission, which ended on Wednesday.
“Physical and mental strength are very important for these kinds of climbs," Alkis said. "I will continue to improve through new projects.”
Mount Kilimanjaro, located in Tanzania, is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world.
