Israel fires 6 shells at southern Syria’s Quneitra countryside

Israeli forces shelled the outskirts of the town of Al-Rafid in southern Syria’s Quneitra countryside on Saturday, according to media reports.

Syria Alikhbaria TV said six shells were fired at the area, without immediately reporting casualties or damage.

An Israeli force comprising five military vehicles advanced earlier to the outskirts of Al-Rafid before withdrawing, with no arrests reported.

The latest incident follows repeated Israeli activity in the area. Israeli forces fired two artillery shells on Thursday near Tal al-Ahmar in southern Quneitra.

The official SANA news agency also reported that Israeli forces detained a shepherd west of Al-Rafid on Tuesday before releasing him hours later.

Southern Syria, particularly Quneitra and Daraa, has seen repeated Israeli incursions involving raids, searches, arrests and the establishment of military checkpoints.

Last month, Israeli warplanes carried out eight strikes on the runway of the Abu al-Duhur Military Airbase in northwestern Idlib province, causing damage to the infrastructure.

Israeli activities intensified after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in December 2024, when Israel declared the collapse of the 1974 disengagement agreement and seized control of the Syrian buffer zone.
