The Saudi-led coalition said early Sunday that it had intercepted and destroyed a drone over Saudi Arabia’s capital region of Riyadh.
Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki made the announcement on US social media platform X without specifying the drone’s origin or providing details on possible casualties or damage.
On Saturday the coalition said that it had intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by Yemen’s Houthi group toward the Saudi cities of Taif and Yanbu.
The Houthis separately claimed that they had carried out missile and drone attacks on Saudi airports, oil facilities, and an airbase, including Riyadh’s main airport, King Khalid International Airport.
The group called the attacks retaliation for Saudi airstrikes on Yemen.
The developments come amid escalating hostilities involving attacks on Saudi aviation and energy infrastructure and coalition strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen.
Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government against the Houthis since 2015. The group has controlled the capital Sanaa and other parts of the country since 2014.
