CAIRO
Two soldiers were injured on Friday in an attack on a security checkpoint in the southern province of Assiut (350 kms south of Cairo).
Unidentified gunmen opened fire at army and police forces manning the checkpoint in Al-Mamtar village, security sources said.
According to sources, security forces exchanged fire with the assailants, who fled the scene unscathed.
It is not yet clear whether those injured were from army or police forces.
This is the second attack on the security checkpoint in two weeks.
There was no comment from Egyptian authorities.
