BEIJING
China welcomed top-level talks between South and North Korea on Wednesday on the reunification of separated families during the Korean War.
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told a press conference that China expects a positive outcome from the meetings and he encourages North and South Korea's reconciliation through dialogue and developing ties.
He said Beijing hopes that both parties redouble their efforts to improve their relationship and ease the tension in the region. The reunion meeting is the first such meeting since 2007 between South and North Korean senior officials.
The meeting held under Pyongyang's offer at the border village of Panmunjom did not have a set agenda but it is expected that reuniting families separated during the Korean War will be discussed.
