At least 58 people, including 12 children and 3 women, were killed in attacks staged by the Syrian regime across the country on Saturday, opposition activists said.
Syrian regime forces killed 17 people in Aleppo, 17 in Damascus suburbs, 14 in Homs, 7 in Deir ez Zor, and 2 in Idlib and one in Daraa, said the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR), a London-based group which tracks civilian and dissident casualties.
The armed opposition captured control of important points in the Adra town of capital Damascus and killed the town's mayor, the Syrian Revolution General Commission (SRGC) said in a statement.
Hezbollah-backed regime forces attacked opposition-controlled towns and villages in Damascus' Kalamun region and other suburbs with mortars and rockets.
People face the risk of freezing to death in Homs due to bad weather conditions and the perpetually deteriorating humanitarian situation amid fuel shortages in opposition-controlled areas, the statement added.
Noting that Syrians living in tent cities in the country's north struggle for life under difficult conditions, it called for immediate help for the international community.
Stressing that children freeze to death each day, the statement explained that one tin of diesel costs 25 thousand Syrian dollars (about $184) in some areas controlled by the opposition.
Syria's official news agency SANA claimed security forces cleared away many armed groups across the country and destroyed their vehicles.
