AS Monaco Basket announced Wednesday that they will suspend operations as they filed for bankruptcy, bringing an abrupt halt to one of European basketball's most successful recent projects.
"Despite all our efforts, AS Monaco Basket has filed for bankruptcy," the club said in a statement addressed to its supporters.
"The club will now take a break, hoping to find a path to restructuring and, one day, to relaunch the project."
The club had emerged as a major force in European basketball over the past five years, competing in the EuroLeague for five consecutive seasons.
Monaco reached the EuroLeague Final Four for the first time in 2023 before returning in 2025 and advancing to the championship game.
Their rise in Europe began with the 2021 EuroCup title, which earned Monaco qualification for the EuroLeague and marked the Principality's first European title in a team sport.
Over the past 12 years, Monaco also won three French league titles, four Leaders Cups, two French Cups and one Super Cup.
The club ended the 2025-26 season by winning all four major French trophies.
The club said the future of men's basketball in Monaco will now rest with the ASM Association, including its youth teams and senior side competing in France's Nationale 3 division.
"The ultimate goal remains to see Monaco reclaim its rightful place," the club said, expressing hope that the professional team could eventually return to the highest level.
