LATAKIA
An Anadolu Agency (AA) team visited a primary school which was reopened after kept shut for nearly a year because of the civil war in Syria's Latakia city.
AA team entered the Bayir-Bucak region of Syria's Latakia city where conflicts take place each day, taking photos and recording videos of the efforts of volunteer teachers of the school.
Despite the heavy shelling and conflicts, Syrian children are attending lessons at the school.
There is no power and water in some villages in the region controlled by opponents for nearly 8 months. Syrian villagers struggle to live under difficult conditions and try to survive with the support of several Turkish relief charities.
Volunteer teachers decided to reopen the school in the city centre as there are high number of children who have to continue their education.
One of the educators, Hasan Abdullah told AA that they picked the safest region in the city to reopen the school.
He said that between the ages of 6 and 14; 86 children began receiving education and in total there were 250 children had to go to school.
Abdullah said, "Almost every day, Assad's forces bomb the region. Our children have to continue their education. Some of them are about to forget reading skills. That is why, whenever is safe, we will continue to keep the school open."
