WASHINGTON D.C.
Washington is an important capital, and The Anadolu Agency's Washington bureau will deliver important U.S. news to a wider audience around the world, Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan said Thursday.
"I think that the opening of the Anadolu Agency's Washington office after New York should be an important political message to the U.S.," Babacan said. "It demonstrates that Turkey cares about this country and would like to have closer relations with it. It is also important to have an office here to promote a better understanding between the peoples of both countries."
"The fact that Anadolu Agency broadcasts in several languages and operates in a very wide area means an increase in Turkey's global efficiency as well. And we will continue to support the Agency's efforts to further its global operations," he said.
Anadolu Agency inaugurated its Washington office Thursday as part of the agency's "Centennial Vision" to become one of the top five news agencies in the world by its 100th anniversary, in 2020.
AA's new office, in the heart of Washington, was inaugurated by Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, the agency's Europe & Americas Regional Director Ural Yesil, and the Americas Editor Hasan Huseyin Kosger.
The Washington bureau will cover news from across the U.S. and is set to become one of the most important news hubs in the country in the fields of diplomacy, politics and finance.
Located a block from the White House and within walking distance of the U.S. Capitol, the bureau will contribute to Anadolu Agency's Turkish, English and Arabic broadcasting services.
As part of its Centennial Vision, AA has decided to divide its global network into five main regions, including the Americas, Europe, Middle East-Africa, Asia-Caucasus and Asia-Pacific.
