IZMIR, Turkey
A stun grenade has exploded near the Justice and Development (AK) Party’s premises in the Karsiyaka district of western Turkish province Izmir on Saturday, police have said.
The blast was heard in the entrance to the party building’s parking space, according to initial reports.
The explosion, which did not lead to any casualties, has caused damage to the building and a vehicle parked in front.
Police have taken security measures in the area and an investigation is under way.
The AK Party's Izmir lawmaker Kerem Ali Surekli has condemned the attack, saying: "We will not let anyone harm the country's peace."
Bulent Delican, the party's provincial head, said the attack was perpetrated by those who targeted the country's unity and integrity.
"We, as the party's local organizations, will continue to stand upright," Delican told Anadolu Agency.
