Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Wednesday said Turkey was ready to compensate Turkish exporters over possible losses stemming from Russian sanctions.
His remarks came during a cocktail event held for a High Advisory Board Meeting of Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association, better known as TUSIAD.
"I want to express to our business world that whoever is damaged by these sanctions, our measures to compensate them are already now ready," said Davutoglu.
After the downing of a Russian warplane that violated Turkey’s airspace near the Syrian border on Nov. 24, Moscow announced a wide range of sanctions against Turkey.
Among the sanctions imposed by Moscow is the end of a visa-free travel agreement between the two countries and a ban on Turkish food products.
Russia has also called on its nationals to boycott Turkey as a tourist destination.
The Turkish prime minister said the Turkey-Russia relations should not be allowed to be deteriorated via economic sanctions.
In reference to the sanctions, Davutoglu added punishing a country and its businessmen was "contrary to modern international law".
