The spokesperson said al-Erian, Shura Council's majority leader, would lead FJP's parliamentary bloc in the upper house of Parliament, and he had quit the job to better focus on attending to party-related work.
"I cannot have a job with legislative branch and another with the executive branch," Al-Erian said.
Al-Erian received fierce criticism when he called on Egyptian Jews in Israel to return home.
Morsi's office has said Al-Erian's comments were his own personal opinion.
