DENIZLI (AA) - September 5, 2012 - Pamukkale which is in the UNESCO World Heritage List hosted more than 1 million local and foreign tourists in the first eight months of 2012.
In August, Pamukkale was visited by 189 thousand foreign tourists and in total the number reached 238 thousand people.
Pamukkale is special with its healing waters and the visual richness created by the water.
Adem Oku, Secretary General of Special Provincial Administration, told AA on Wednesday that Pamukkale received 1,102,706 tourists in the first 8 months of 2012.
Site of Pamukkale is exceptional by virtue of its superlative natural phenomena. It has warm, heavily mineralized water flowing from springs creating pools and terraces which are visually stunning.
The name "Pamukkale", which literally means 'cotton castle', was inspired by the preternatural landscape of bizarre forms created by calcite deposits from the hot springs that surface through a fault: mineral forests, petrified cascades and terraced pools.
