A former acting speaker of the Turkish parliament, Kamer Genc, has died at the age of 75.
Dr. Dilek Mamcu, chief of medicine at Istanbul's Gayrettepe Florence Nightingale Hospital confirmed that the former Republican People's Party (CHP) member of parliament had been received treatment.
"Mr. Kamer Genc, who had been under oncological treatment at our hospital since Oct. 28, 2015, died at 5:10pm today [03:10 GMT] of multiple organ failure," Mamcu told Anadolu Agency.
Kamer Genc was born on Feb. 23, 1940 in the eastern town of Nazimiye, Tunceli province.
Genc served as acting speaker of the Turkish parliament for two consecutive terms, from Jan. 1996 to Nov. 2002. He also served as a lawmaker for the CHP for two terms, from July 2007 to June 2015.
