ANKARA
Mongolian President Elbegdorj Tsakhia has awarded Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc with a “medal of friendship.”
Arinc received the award Tuesday at the Mongolian embassy in Ankara, where a special ceremony was organized to celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The deputy prime minister thanked President Tsakhia for the honor.
“It is a great honor for me to receive this medal on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of our relations with Mongolia. I have been in charge of Turkey-Mongolia Joint Economic Committee for five years.”
Arinc said the economic ties between Turkey and Mongolia were growing, and Turkish investors were being encouraged to invest in Mongolia.
He also said Turkey would always support Mongolia in building further cultural and tourism relations; trade and industrial investments; and cooperation in the transportation sector.
Mongolia’s Ambassador to Turkey Badamdorj Batkhishig thanked Arinc for his efforts in strengthening bilateral ties.
“As a result of his efforts, Turkey’s investment rate and trade volume in Mongolia has increased over the past years,” Batkhishig said.
Diplomatic relations between Turkey and Mongolia were established on June 24, 1969. According to the Turkish Foreign Affairs Ministry, Turkey considers Mongolia as a strategically important country with its huge landmass and vast resources.
According to June 2014 figures, the trade volume between the two countries reached $40 million.
