HAKKARI
Turkish police took into custody three people Saturday suspected of carrying out an attack on Turkish police on Friday in the southeastern corner of Turkey.
Police sources said that two suspects were detained in Semdinli’s Moda neighborhood and one in Altinsu village.
This occurred amid a series of anti-terror operations across Turkey following recent attacks against police officers and a suicide bomb blast that killed 32 people last Monday in Suruc, in southeastern Turkey.
A handmade explosive reportedly targeted police in the Semdinli district of the Hakkari province injuring two policemen, one of them critically. He was taken to Yuksekova State Hospital for medical treatment.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Kurdish-populated Hakkari province has recently seen many attacks from the illegal Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK) members.
Turkey, the U.S. and EU list PKK as a terrorist organization.
