THESSALONIKI (AA) – Difficulties and challenges faced during youth help a person develop confidence and the strength to overcome troubles, Turkish Health Minister Mehmet Muezzinoglu told reporters while riding the “November 10 Ataturk Memorial and Peace Train” to Greek city Thessaloniki.
The train voyage was organized by the western Thracian Turks Solidarity Organization to mark the 75th anniversary of the death of Turkish Republic founder Mustafa Kamel Ataturk and the 90th anniversary of the Treaty of Lausanne.
Moved during the voyage by the Balkan Turkish music performed by Senior Lecturer at the Istanbul University State Conservatory Musicology Department, Dr. Mehtap Demir, Muezzinoglu explained that historic pains lie behind the traditional folk songs which are considered as entertainment.
Noting that one must know history to understand such folk songs, Muezzinoglu said, “we must understand that spirit.”
Addressing the impact of trying circumstances on personal growth, he explained, “It is important for a person's confidence that they be able to overcome difficulties. I am fortunate for having understood this at an early age.”
“Children should face some difficulties so they acquire courage and confidence. For children, this is a gain much greater than any diploma or inheritance you can give them.”
