Turkey's International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA) started the restoration and renovation works of the historical El Hussein Mosque in Egypt.
Chief of the repairing crew Haci Kilic told AA that when the works were completed, the mosque would retrieve its beautiful appearance.
It will take six months to change the chandeliers and the carpets in the mosque as well as set up the cooling and the lighting systems.
The mosque was built in 1154 on the cemetery of the Fatimid caliphs. Head of Husayn ibn Ali --the grandson of Prophet Muhammad-- is believed to be buried in the grounds of the mosque.
TIKA is planning to restore Hussein and al Azhar mosques as well as the mausoleum of Imam al- Shafi'i in line with the treaty signed with the Egyptian government.
