ISLAMABAD
Turkish energy ships,"Kaya Bey" and "Ali Can Bey" which generated electricity for Pakistan for 2 years, are set to leave for Turkey after Pakistani High Federal Court cancelled all the energy renting agreements in the country.
Authorities decided the ships to leave after paying the unused amount of the deposit given by the Pakistani government. A statement by National Finance office (NAB) said that the five-year agreement between the Pakistani government and the energy group was cancelled three years ago. It was also said that Turkish ships that guaranteed to provide 232 megawatt of power provided 60 megawatt of power.
A statement by the Turkish company, Karkey, said that the firm abided by the agreement and Pakistani government abolished it.
A Karkey official told AA correspondent that according to the agreement the fuel that would be used for the energy generation was going to be supplied by Pakistani government but since the supplement was either late or inadequate they were incapable of producing the guaranteed amount and added that NAB did not find Karkey wrong.
The official added that Karkey do not consider arbitration and after the paperwork is done the ship will leave the country.
Belonging to Karadeniz (Black Sea) Energy Group (Karkey) under Karadeniz Holding, the ships reached Karachi Port in late 2010 after winning an international bid. 241-meter "Kaya Bey", which has 220 megawatt of power was also carrying aid containers which were prepared for flood victims of Pakistan.
The Turkish ships, the biggest Turkish investment in Pakistan, are capable of supplying 30 percent of the electricity need of Karachi -having 18 million population- city when operated full capacity.
