COLOGNE, Germany
Turkish Youth and Sports Minister Akif Cagatay Kilic urged on Sunday Turkish migrants living in Germany to integrate by saying, “Turkey backs you” in Germany’s fourth largest city of Cologne.
“You should join politics and non-governmental organizations in the country you live in,” Kilic said at the 25th anniversary ceremony of the European Turkish Islamic Union.
Remarking that the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has always backed Turks in Germany, Kilic said Turks are currently essential elements in Germany.
“There are 11 lawmakers and one minister of Turkish origin in Germany,” he added.
An estimated 3-3.5 million Turkish immigrants live in Germany, making them the largest ethnic minority in Germany by accounting for nearly four percent of Germany’s population.
