ISTANBUL
Turkey's IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation teams sent aid materials composed of 40 tons of rice, 4 tons of water, 5,000 canned food and 5,000 package of coffee to the crisis management center in the city of Tacloban, Philippines.
According to the statement made by IHH, it's very difficult to transport aid materials to the needy due to bad weather conditions in the typhoon-hit Philippines.
"Many people sought sanctuary in big buildings such as schools, churches, shopping malls and sports halls. The rest is trying to build up shelters among the wrecks to protect from sunlight and rain." said Cemil Baser, an official of the IHH in Tacloban.
He added that there were many newborns, and the wealthier of the country were transferred to Cebu by air freighter and ships.
The statement also said that those in Turkey who would like to support the typhoon victims in Philippines can send an SMS to 3072 reading "Filipinler" or they can make an online donation via IHH's "https://secure.ihh.org.tr" website.
