All of the Turkish dailies covered that who might be behind the blasts which happened during a marathon race in Boston, US on April 15. "America seeks perpetrators" headlined daily ZAMAN and noted that following the Boston attack, the country is on alert. Daily ZAMAN said, tight security measures in New York, Washington, Los Angeles and San Francisco have been taken and the FBI investigation is on full swing. The newspaper stated, no one claimed responsibility for the bombing and US President Barack Obama addressed people of the US saying, "We will find out who did this. We do not know what they did such a thing yet. Before finding all the evidences, there will not be any rulings." Moreover, daily VATAN noted, the type of the bombs was the ones being used in Iraq and Afghanistan and that while Al-Qaida keeps quiet, Taliban stated on Tuesday that they are not related to the blasts. The blasts happened around three hours after the lead runners passed the finish line.
Powerful earthquake shakes Iran
"Biggest earthquake of the last 50 years" published daily MILLIYET and said, an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter Scale hit Iran's Zahedan city on Tuesday afternoon which caused the death of at least 40 people and hundreds of others were wounded. The earthquake was felt in many Gulf countries including India, UAE and Qatar as well.
Ankara court accepts indictment against retired General Ersoz as he might have been involved in Turkey's former president Ozal's death
Several Turkish dailies covered that Ankara High Criminal Court no:13 accepted an indictment prepared against retired general Levent Ersoz regarding the death of former president Turgut Ozal one day before the statue of limitation ends. Earlier in April, Public Prosecutor Kemal Cetin sent an almost 50-page indictment regarding the demise of Ozal to the court. The indictment accuses Ersoz saying that he might have been involved in an assassination plot against the late president. Ozal died of alleged heart failure in 1993 at an Ankara hospital. Last year a further toxicologic study was carried out and some papers reminded there was not a conclusive report that he was poisoned.
