The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Jeh Johnson, visited a Syrian refugee camp in Turkey’s southern Adana province Tuesday, official sources said.
Officials at the Adana Saricam refugee camp, set up by Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority, AFAD, said they briefed Johnson about the Syrian refugees in Adana and Turkey.
Johnson later met with some Syrian families living in the camp and visited the camp's primary school, nursery, and health clinic, officials said.
The U.S. secretary was accompanied by Adana Governor Mustafa Buyuk, U.S. Ambassador to Turkey John Bass and U.S. Consul to Adana Linda Stuart Specht.
Johnson was also due to visit the Incirlik Air Base, officials added.
