Egyptian authorities announced Wednesday that the first day of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, will fall on Thursday.
Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam said that the moon of Shawwal, the 10th month in Islamic calendar, has been sighted.
"Therefore, the first day of Eid al-Fitr will be on Thursday," he said in a televised address.
