The European Union condemned on Tuesday North Korea’s recent missile launches, and called on Pyongyang to refrain from similar actions that undermine international security.
“The EU condemns the launches of missiles by the DPRK (North Korea), which occurred most recently on January 5 and 11,” Nabila Massrali, the spokeswoman for the European External Action Service said in a statement.
The statement said North Korea’s “pursuit of illegal weapons systems is a threat to international peace and security,” and called on the country to comply with resolutions of the UN Security Council and refrain from similar actions.
The bloc also urged Pyongyang to engage in a transparent and verifiable denuclearization process.
The EU confirmed that it will continue to apply sanctions against North Korea until it engages in non-proliferation.
According to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, North Korea tested on Tuesday a ballistic missile using cutting-edge technology which outpowers the hypersonic missile launched on Jan. 5.
