BAGHDAD
At least nine people have been killed and 32 injured Monday in multiple bomb attacks across Baghdad and neighboring towns, police said.
According to information received from police, at least 8 people were killed and another 28 were injured in explosions in Baghdad’s western neighborhood of Furat, in its northern Taji district, and in other areas in the city and in the southern town of Latifiyah as well.
In addition, at least one police officer was killed and four were injured after a roadside bomb exploded, as the police were patrolling in Baghdad province’s western town of Yusufiyah township.
Army operations
According to a statement issued by Baghdad Operations Command, Iraqi troops were involved in clashes west of the capital.
“After clashes with terrorist groups west of Baghdad, three of them were killed and four were injured. Another 13 bombs were defused,” the statement said.
Prime Minister Haydar al-Abadi had lifted Baghdad’s eight-year curfew on Feb. 7, citing "improved security conditions."
Iraq has been gripped by a security vacuum since June 2014 when Daesh (an Arabic acronym for ISIL) militants stormed the northern province of Mosul and declared a self-styled caliphate in parts of Iraq and Syria.
