KIEV
At least six Ukrainian soldiers were killed and ten others wounded in ongoing clashes in the country's east over the last 24 hours, according to Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council on Saturday.
The council said that pro-Russian separatists continued attacks against government-held Donetsk Airport as well as rail and road routes between Luhansk and Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.
They also confirmed that pro-Russian separatists violated the cease-fire 37 times in just the last 24 hours and ten soldiers were wounded during the attacks.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a law on October 16 granting "special status" to local authorities in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics.
He said this law would allow them to rule themselves for three years and laid the ground for local elections to be held in the regions in December.
However, pro-Russian separatists refused to recognize the law and declared parliamentary and presidential elections on November 2 in the regions under their control.
