The recently agreed cessation of hostilities in Syria has been kept in general, according to Russia’s Defense Ministry.
Military spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in a statement Monday that Russian warplanes continued to bomb Daesh targets and had refrained from attacking groups which support the U.S./Russia-backed agreement.
Konashenkov added that Moscow had submitted a list of Syrian regions in need of humanitarian aid and that they were ready to cooperate to deliver assistance.
Local sources claim that regime forces backed by Russian airpower continue to strike opposition positions in Syria despite the cessation-of-hostilities agreement.
The deal was agreed on by Washington and Moscow on Feb. 27. It is the latest in a series of diplomatic efforts ostensibly aimed at ending the conflict, which will soon enter its sixth year.
Daesh and al-Qaeda’s Syria affiliate, the Nusra Front, were not included in the agreement.
