Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Friday lauded Pakistan's "constructive role" in facilitating the US-Iran dialogue to end the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Lavrov made the remarks during a phone call with his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar, according to a Pakistan Foreign Ministry statement.
"Lavrov appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States," said the ministry.
The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and cooperation at multilateral fora in support of international peace and security.
Dar underscored Pakistan’s resolve to continue contributing to efforts aimed at promoting dialogue and diplomacy to resolve all issues.
Dar and Lavrov also discussed rescheduling the visit of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Russia at an early mutually convenient date.
Sharif was due to travel to Russia from March 3 to 5; however, the visit was postponed due to the prevailing regional and domestic situation.
Dar also extended an invitation to Lavrov to visit Pakistan.
The call between Lavrov and Dar came as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is set to begin a regional tour of Pakistan, Oman and Russia from Friday, according to Iranian media.
