One Azerbaijani soldier has been killed in a clash after Armenian troops breached a ceasefire on the countries’ border, the defense ministry in Baku claimed on Friday.
The ministry issued a statement saying the soldier was killed in gunfire between Azerbaijani and Armenian forces.
The incident comes two days after an Azerbaijani soldier died in an armed incident with what the country’s military called a “sabotage team” from Armenia attacked an Azerbaijani position.
No further details were forthcoming.
Armenia and Azerbaijan remain locked in conflict after the 1988 invasion of the Azerbaijan territory of Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenia.
Since the end of the war in 1994, the two sides have held talks over the status of Nagorno-Karabakh under the supervision of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's Minsk Group.
