Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney discussed bilateral ties as well as regional and global issues Monday.

Erdogan received Carney at the Turkevi Center, or Turkish House, in New York City, where he is attending the 80th UN General Assembly.

"In the meeting, President Erdogan stated that Türkiye and Canada, as important NATO allies, play a significant role in the security of the Euro-Atlantic region. He underlined the substantial potential for cooperation, particularly in the fields of energy and the defense industry," said Türkiye's Communications Directorate.

Noting that efforts are being made to seize these opportunities and deepen bilateral relations, President Erdogan said the contacts between the two countries in the coming period would be beneficial for strengthening cooperation.

The president also underscored that Türkiye is making efforts to secure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid.

He reiterated that the two-state solution is the only viable option for resolving the Palestinian issue.

During the meeting, President Erdogan expressed his satisfaction with Canada’s decision to recognize Palestine as a state and congratulated Carney on this step.
