China condemns deadly Pakistan attack, backs Islamabad’s counterterrorism efforts

China on Monday condemned a deadly attack on a police complex in northwestern Pakistan and reaffirmed its support for Islamabad’s counterterrorism efforts.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said Beijing “strongly condemns” the attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and extended condolences to the victims and their families

“Terrorism is a common enemy of humanity. Fighting terrorism is in the shared interests of all countries,” Guo said.

Two successive suicide bombings struck near a mosque inside the Old Police Lines complex in Kohat district on Friday, killing at least 24 people, including 18 police officers and six civilians.

At least eight “terrorists” were also killed in the anti-militant operations that lasted around 21 hours, according to Pakistani officials.

“China will continue its steadfast support for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts. We call on all countries to join forces in tackling the threat of terrorism and safeguard global security and stability,” Guo said.
