NIAMEY
Turkey provided the digging and equipment of more than 200 wells in Niger in five years.
Dug by Turkey's International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA), wells changed the lives of Nigeriens who were suffering from lack of clean water and used to walk for kilometers to reach potable water.
Zainab Moussa, a Nigerien woman living in a village close to capital Niamey displays Turkish flag on her house to thank Turkey for the wells. She told AA correspondent that she used to walk for kilometers for water and than carry it back home in buckets. Saying that it was very tiring, Moussa thanked Turkish officials.
She said she obtained a Turkish flag at the opening ceremony of a well and fly it on her house, saying that "she would never take it down".
TIKA official Emir Sultan said each well becomes a hope for the Nigeriens and they would continue to open up wells in the country.
