ANKARA
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has slammed the European Union over its strict visa policy on Turkish citizens.
"Latin American countries, which has nothing to do with the EU can get in and out easily. But Turkey, as a negotiating candidate country, is denied visa exemption," Erdogan told a joint press conference with his Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte after a bilateral meeting in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
Erdogan, however, sounded hopeful that the Union would eventually lift visa requirements on Turks, saying, "sooner or later this problem will be overcome," urging The Netherlands to extend support on the issue.
