TOKYO
Three people were killed and four others injured Sunday when a small private plane crashed into a residential area of a western suburb of Japanese capital Tokyo.
The Metropolitan Police Department said that two men who were on board the plane and a female resident of one of the effected homes in Chofu were among the dead.
Kyodo News also cited firefighters as saying four others sustained injuries due to the accident that took place at around 11 a.m. (0300GMT), setting five houses and a vehicle on fire.
The wounded are believed to include two people from the plane and at least two others residing in the area, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported.
Kyoto quoted a woman resident of the neighborhood as saying, “I saw the plane take off but didn't see it crash… Immediately, though, I heard a loud boom and saw smoke rising."
The crash site is located just southeast of Chofu airport, which is primarily used by small propeller aircraft.
