US President Donald Trump met with Irish President Catherine Connolly and Prime Minister Micheal Martin on Saturday after arriving in Ireland for a two-day visit.
Trump met with Connolly at Aras an Uachtarain, the Irish president’s official residence in Dublin, where he was welcomed by a military band during an arrival ceremony. The two leaders shook hands before holding a courtesy meeting.
Following their meeting, as Trump was making his way to his vehicle, members of the press shouted questions at the US president.
Asked about the situation in Iran, Trump responded: “Everything will work out fine.”
Trump later traveled to Farmleigh House, where Martin was seen waiting for his arrival. The two leaders met for bilateral talks and shook hands at the Dublin residence.
The talks were expected to cover a range of issues concerning the US and Ireland.
Earlier in the day, Trump was greeted by senior Irish officials after stepping off his plane, including Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris, Foreign Minister Helen McEntee and US Ambassador to Ireland Ed Walsh.
During his two-day visit, Trump is also due to attend events at the US ambassador’s residence in Dublin’s Phoenix Park.
He will later travel west to County Clare, where he is scheduled to attend the Amgen Irish Open at Trump International Golf Links and Hotel Doonbeg, a property he owns.
Trump’s itinerary will take him from Dublin to Ireland’s west coast before he is scheduled to depart the country on Sunday.
